Minister Of Home Affairs Tito Reminds Regional Heads To Be Neutral In The 2024 Election

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian reminded governor officials to be neutral in the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).

"I have said many times (to be neutral), this is how the governor is ordered to be neutral. Your goal is to be the governor to fill the void so that the harmony government is grateful if it can improve the system," Tito said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 5.

According to him, the governors were appointed to fill the vacancy of the government. For this reason, Tito emphasized that the acting regional head must be neutral.

"If the governor is not neutral, then he will be subject to sanctions. The sanctions that will be given range from mild to severe ones," said Tito.

"If someone is not neutral, we will check and then if proven, they will be given sanctions, from the lightest to the heaviest," he said.

Not only that, said Tito, the Ministry of Home Affairs will conduct an evaluation every three months on the acting regional head. He also mentioned that many will oversee the work of the officials.

"In internal, employees are supervised, who are also not stupid, and they are smart. Second, they are supervised by the internal supervisory staff, they are supervised by the community and all political parties," he said.

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian officially inaugurated nine governor officials to fill the vacant position of the provincial head whose term ends on Tuesday (5/9).
