Billowing Smoke In The DPR Due To An Erratic Aerosol Fire Fighting System
JAKARTA - By this afternoon, smoke was rising in the Nusantara III Building of the DPR RI. The building occupants panicked and thought there was a fire.
However, this smoke did not appear because there was a fire. The Secretary General of the DPR RI, Indra Iskandar, confirmed that there was no fire in this parliament building.
The puff of smoke, said Indra, was due to an error in the fire extinguishing aerosol system installed in the 2nd floor corridor, Nusantara III Building, DPR RI.
"Earlier in the corridor on the second floor, the aerosols were functioning for no apparent reason," he said during a press statement at the Media Center, Parliament Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, February 24.
He added that the fire extinguishing system in this building is designed to be very sensitive to heat or fire. So, this system immediately emits smoke when there is a discovery of heat or fire.
However, the aerosol smoke that appeared today was not caused by hot spots or flames. But because of an error system.
Indra explained, from the events that occurred, there were no obstacles or losses that occurred.
"But my friends are currently researching why this (aerosol system) is triggered by emitting smoke. So what happens is an error system," said Indra.
This aerosol system error is not the first time this has happened. Indra noted that there have been three similar incidents. He will also re-evaluate the aerosol system installed in the parliament building.
"We will evaluate the error of this system in the future, whether we have to maintain this overly sensitive one or reduce it," said Indra.
In the same place, the Head of Metro Jaya Police Inspector General Pol Nana Sudjana emphasized something similar to Indra's explanation.
"There is no fire, no fire, this is a system error, our friend has already processed the crime scene to ascertain the cause of this error," he said. (Gabriella Thesa Widiari)
