Weather Alert Today! Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Potentially Happen in Several Regions of Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning regarding the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds in a number of areas, Wednesday, August 30.

An early warning regarding today's weather delivered by the BMKG indicates the potential for heavy rain in several areas, including Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, South Sumatra, North Kalimantan, North Maluku, West Papua and Papua.

The presence of heavy rains can cause natural disasters such as floods and landslides. Therefore, the public is advised to increase vigilance if heavy rain occurs for a long period of time.

BMKG also reminds the public to be aware of the potential for strong winds with speeds above 45 km per hour in areas such as Aceh, South Sumatra, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), and North Kalimantan.

In addition, strong winds will also occur in North Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua.

In addition, the BMKG informed that low rainfall and increasing air temperatures could increase the risk of forest or land fires in several areas.

Based on an early warning from the BMKG, the risk of forest and land fires could occur in areas such as East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan.

Communities are advised not to take actions that have the potential to increase the risk of forest and land fires, such as burning to clear or clear land.
