The Richest Man In The World Jeff Bezos Resign From Amazon
JAKARTA - Jeff Bezos resigned from his position as CEO of Amazon. Furthermore, he will occupy the executive chair as the company's board of commissioners.
Reported by The Washington Post, Andy Jassy, who heads Amazon Web Services (AWS), will temporarily replace Jeff Bezos as CEO of Amazon. This news is quite surprising because Amazon has just released its latest financial report.
Amazon is one of the fastest growing companies during the pandemic. In the last three months of 2020, the company recorded sales of more than 100 billion US dollars for the first time.
"Right now, I see Amazon at its most inventive state, making it the optimal time for this transition," Bezos said in his letter to employees.
Bezos has been Amazon's CEO since its founding in 1995. He has overseen its growth from an online bookseller to a global retail and logistics giant valued at US $ 1.7 trillion.
Thanks to Amazon, Bezos is also one of the richest people in the world. His total wealth is currently around USD 181.5 billion or equivalent to IDR 2,551 trillion.
"Amazon became what it is because of its invention. This journey started about 27 years ago. Amazon is just an idea, and it doesn't have a name," said Bezos.
"The question I was most often asked at that time was, 'What is the internet?' ... Today, we employ 1.3 million talented and dedicated people, serve hundreds of millions of customers and businesses, and are widely recognized as one of the most successful companies in the world, "he wrote.
Talking about his successor, Jassy himself has worked for Amazon since 1997 and currently serves as CEO of the company's cloud business, Amazon Web Services (AWS). In his hands this service was the biggest profit driver for Amazon in the last quarter, AWS accounted for 10 percent of sales and 52 percent of the company's profits.
"Being the CEO of Amazon is a deep responsibility, and it takes a lot of time. When you have a responsibility like that, it's hard to pay attention to anything else," said the bald-looking man.
Bezos said his decision to step down as CEO would give him plenty of time to work on other projects. He will shift his time and energy to focus on the Day 1 Fund, Bezos Earth Fund, and Blue Origin.
