NasDem Denies Will Betray In The 2024 Presidential Election: Our Commitment Has Been Tested

JAKARTA - The chairman of the DPP NasDem Party, Taufik Basari, denied that his party would betray him in the Coalition for Change (KPP) which brought Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate in 2024.

He emphasized this in response to a statement by Democrat politician Andi Arief said that his party would continue to be with PKS even though there was another party that betrayed the coalition. It is known that the Change Coalition that carried Anies was filled by NasDem, Democrats and PKS.

"Nothing, if our NasDem has been tested by our commitment. We don't need to convey it in words, it's quite evident from the evidence," Taufik told reporters at the DPR building, Tuesday, August 22.

Taufik emphasized that NasDem upholds its commitment if it has provided support to certain figures.

"In the history of the NasDem party's journey, there has never been an event that shows this. So whether it's the NasDem party or Pak Surya Paloh, he is a person who firmly adheres to his commitment and we are consistent with what we have decided," he said.

Taufik also did not question the proposal of the Democrats and PKS who agreed that the Chairman of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) be elected as a candidate for Vice President, assistant to Anies Baswedan.

Taufik said that his party fully handed over to Anies as the KPP president. Moreover, he said, Anies had provided a number of criteria for his future vice presidential candidate. "If our NasDem is guided by the agreement we have made together, we will leave it to Mas Anies," he said.

Therefore, he continued, NasDem was waiting for Anies' decision. After that, will announce who the vice presidential candidate will be.

"So we stick to the agreement we have made," he concluded.
