The certification program is part of the outermost small island utilization management program in order to maintain the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, utilize natural resources and improve the welfare of communities in border areas.
The outermost small islands, he continued, have strategic value as the base point of the base line of the Indonesian archipelago in determining Indonesian territorial waters, the Indonesian Exclusive Economic Zone and the Indonesian Continental Shelf.
"Currently, Indonesia has determined 111 outermost small islands based on Presidential Decree No. 6 of 2017 concerning the Designation of Outermost Small Islands. In addition, Indonesia has also deposited 16,671 islands that have standardized their names to the UN, "he explained.
Director of Utilization of Coasts and Small Islands (P4K) Muhammad Yusuf revealed that in 2020, certification of land rights will be carried out in Pulau Rangsang Kab. Meranti Islands covering an area of 8,924 square meters, Pulau Bertuah Kab. West Coast covering an area of 40,000 square meters, Sabu Island Kab. Sabu Raijua 115,190 square meters, and on Pulau Rusa Kab. Aceh Besar covering an area of 1,000 square meters.
