Not Broken Eggs, Google Shuts Down Studio Gim Stadia

JAKARTA - Google was forced to stop its internal game studio, called Stadia Games & Entertainment. That way Google will focus more on game titles made by other developers and studios that will be distributed through Stadia.

This closure affected 150 employees of the Stadia Games & Entertainment team. Even so, most of the team will be transferred to work on new Google projects.

In a blog post, Google explained that their reason for the internal game studio Stadia is due to the time and costs of developing games which are considered uneconomical.

"Creating the best games takes a lot of time and a lot of investment while the costs go up exponentially," wrote Google Stadia vice president and GM Phil Harrison.

By closing down Stadia Games & Entertainment, Google did not continue efforts to develop its own Bauatan game for Stadia. Because so far, the game studio hasn't spawned any exclusive titles to play via Stadia.

Stadia was launched in 2019 as a cloud-based gaming platform that can be played without any console. This platform experienced a surge in users in the last year or to be precise during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Several big games, such as Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Red Dead Redemption 2 have attracted users to use the game streaming service made by Google.

"We see an important opportunity to work with partners to find a gaming solution that is built on technical infrastructure and uses state-of-the-art Stadia tools," added Harrison.
