Former Garuda Indonesia Boss, Soetikno Soedarjo, Bribe Paid IDR 1 Billion Fine
JAKARTA - Soetikno Soedarjo, convicted of bribery for the procurement of aircraft and aircraft engines from Airbus SAS and Rolls-Royce PLC at PT Garuda Indonesia, has paid the fine. The former President Director of PT Mugi Rekso Abadi (MRA) paid a fine of IDR 1 billion.
"The KPK execution prosecutor has made a deposit to the state treasury to pay a fine of Rp1 billion in the name of the convict, Soetikno Soedarjo," said Acting KPK spokesman for prosecution Ali Fikri in a written statement.
He explained that the fine money was handed over to the state treasury on Tuesday, January 26. The handover was made based on the decision of the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court (PN) Number: 122 / Pid.Sus / TPK / 2019 / PN.Jkt.Pst dated May 8, 2020 in conjunction with the Corruption Court Decision at the DKI Jakarta High Court Number : 22 / Pid.Sus-TPK / 2020 / PT.DKI dated 23 July 2020 in conjunction with Supreme Court Decision Number: 3948K / Pid.Sus / 2020 dated 21 December 2020.
After this money was deposited, Soetikno's obligation to pay the fine to return state assets was completed.
"(Payment, red) is part of state cash income from corruption recovery assets," said Ali.
Previously, the DKI Jakarta High Court issued a verdict that strengthened the verdict handed down by the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court against the former President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia, Emirsyah Satar.
"Strengthening the verdict of the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on May 8, 2020 Number 121 / Pid.Sus-Tpk / 2019 / PN.Jkt.Pst which was requested for the appeal," reads decision Number 19 / Pid.Sus-TPK / 2020. /PT.DKI uploaded on the MA website.
Based on this ruling, the panel of judges handling the appeal submitted by Emirsyah said the eight-year sentence and a fine of Rp1 billion, a subsidiary of three months in prison, imposed by the Corruption Court were in accordance with Emirsyah's mistakes and public justice.
Apart from that, the panel of judges also considered that Emirsyah had nothing new in the appeal memory and additional appeal memory.
The decision of PT DKI Jakarta also strengthens the verdict handed down by the Corruption Court against the former President Director of PT Mugi Rekso Abadi Soetikno Soedarjo. Both have the same status as defendants in the bribery and TPPU cases.
In the verdict of the Corruption Court, Emirsyah Satar was declared legally and convincingly proven to have committed a criminal act of corruption in the procurement and maintenance of Garuda Indonesia aircraft.
He was also found guilty of committing the crime of money laundering in accordance with Article 3 of the TPPU Law jo. Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1 and Article 65 (1) KUHP.
