Bawaslu Will Patrol Supervision Ahead Of The 2024 General Election

JAKARTA - The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) will supervise patrols in the face of the 2024 General Election.

This follows the statement of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD regarding the alleged lot of money politics during the election.

"The anticipation is clear, at this time there is a butt supervisor at the tap. Then there is also a surveillance patrol that we have been conducting since 2019. Now we will reactivate it for that," said Bawaslu Chairman Rahmat Bagja as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 9.

According to him, anticipation of fraud during elections is not only carried out according to schedule. There are also unscheduled anticipations for joint police surveillance patrols.

"For money politics, we usually go with our police friends for supervision," he said.

Previously, the Head of the KPU Technical Division, Idham Holik, assessed that the statement by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD regarding the existence of money politics within the KPU during the election as an early warning system.

"What was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs became an early warning system for the KPU to discipline and ensure that all levels of the KPU in the regions and the Ad Hoc Agency (ppk, pps, and kpps) should not carry out moral hazard behavior in the 2024 simultaneous Election vote recapitulation," said Idham.

When asked about the attempt to investigate the purchase of votes (vote buying) by KPU members, Idham explained that the alleged crime of purchasing votes or money politics was handled by Bawaslu and the Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Gakkumdu).

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD revealed a number of diseases during the election that must be anticipated from now on.

According to the Professor of the UII Faculty of Law, the first disease is money politics by buying voice support that can be bought in wholesale or retail.

"Money politics is an effort to win the election through purchasing support," said Mahfud MD.

He said the purchase of votes in wholesale could go through botohes or officials in villages, sub-districts to the KPU. Even though the KPU is an independent institution, he continued, its members are up to the regions.

"Many are in the KPU even though they are independent, because the KPU is not only in Jakarta. It has reached the regions and even the level of but all of them are KPU people," he explained.

Meanwhile, retail vote purchases are usually referred to as dawn attacks. Based on the results of research conducted by the KPK, it was found that the increase in the volume of corruption was always in line with the implementation of elections and regional elections.

The second disease is hoaxes or fake news whose contents cause division. In fact, Mahfud continued, elections are expressions of democracy and democracy will become wild and damage the community if there is no nonomocraticism.
