Prisoners In The United States Are Executed Using Electric Chairs
JAKARTA - Nicholas Todd Sutton (58) was executed in the electric chair, at the Riverband Maximum Security Institute in Nashville, Thursday, February 20, at around 19:26 local time. He was executed for killing one inmate over a drug transaction in prison.
Launching from knoxnews.com, Nicholas Todd Sutton asked for a number of foods before being executed. According to the Tennessee Department of Corrections, he ordered fried pork, mashed potatoes in gravy and peach pie with vanilla ice cream.
Meanwhile, reported by Reuters, Sutton is the fourth inmate in the United States to be executed this year and the first in Tennessee. Since 2018, four other US inmates have served death sentences in the electric chair.
Before his execution, Sutton was serving time at the Morgan County State Penitentiary for three murders.
Meanwhile, the case that made Sutton executed is because he killed Carl Estep in 1985. The incident occurred on January 15 morning, Sutton and Thomas Street entered Carl Estep's cell. Then, he stabbed Estep 38 times in the chest and neck with two homemade knives.
According to court records, four inmates testified that they saw them enter Estep's cell and heard screaming.
One of the prisoners said Estep was a marijuana dealer in the prison. Estep was said to have sold "bad stuff" to them and refused to refund the transaction when protested.
In 1986, a Morgan County Crime Court jury sentenced Sutton to first degree murder and the death penalty. Meanwhile, Street was sentenced to life in prison. The third person, accused of taking part in the attack, was released.
