Note, Starting September 28, Messenger From Facebook No Longer Receiving SMS Messages

JAKARTA - Since 2016, Facebook Messenger has become a messaging app that is not only used to exchange messages on Facebook, but also for SMS and MMS.

But now, Messenger users for SMS and MMS have been warned that Messenger will no longer be able to be used to receive SMS messages sent by mobile networks, starting September 28.

"SMS on the Facebook Messenger app will no longer be available after September 28, 2023," wrote one Reddit user, discovered by 9to5google.

This news was later confirmed directly by Meta through an article supported by Messenger.

"If you are using Messenger as your default SMS messaging app for your Android device, please pay attention you will no longer be able to use Messenger to send and receive SMS messages sent by your mobile network when you update your app after September 28, 2023," Facebook said in a statement.

Even so, you will still be able to send and receive SMS messages via your mobile network and access your phone's SMS message history.

"If you don't select your own default messaging app, your SMS message will automatically go to your phone's default messaging app, such as the Android Messages app," the company concluded.

Facebook Messenger first offered SMS support in 2012, but it fell in 2013. In 2016, Facebook tried it again with an update.
