Horseshoe Fly Over Claims To Reduce Congestion By 50 Percent

JAKARTA - The flyover or flyover of Lenteng Agung and Tanjung Barat is being tested for three days from Sunday, January 31 to Tuesday, February 2. This horseshoe fly over was created to facilitate reverse vehicle traffic.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Highways Agency, Hari Nugroho, claims that the horseshoe fly over will be able to reduce congestion in the vicinity by 50 percent. This is because vehicles no longer need to wait for railroad crossings to be opened to make a U-turn.

"I have tried it from the start of the large and small vehicles that have passed, if that estimate can reduce 40 to 50 percent of congestion in this area," Hari told reporters on Sunday, January 31.

In addition, this flyover in the South Jakarta area is also said to reduce traffic accidents. This is because this fly over eliminates level crossings between vehicles and trains on the Jakarta-Bogor route, which pass once every 5 minutes.

"So we will eliminate level crossings in accordance with the Railway Law and secondly, we will close a level crossing from the highway to the train. In the past, there were frequent accidents here, so this fly over was built," he said.

Meanwhile, the progress of work at this location reached 97 percent. Hari said, the fly over construction had actually been completed. However, there is still work that has not been completed, namely the pedestrian bridge (JPO).

"I estimate the JPO will be in March. This is in construction again because yesterday was constrained by land acquisition until the end of December 2020. Finally, in early January we released it, we just built the JPO," said Hari.

For information, the Lenteng Agung flyover is 430 meters long on the west side and 450 meters on the temur side with a width of 6.5 meters. Meanwhile, the west side of Tanjung Barat flyover reaches 540 meters and the east side reaches 590 meters.

The construction of the Lenteng Agung and Tanjung Barat flyovers aims to unravel traffic jams, eliminate railroad crossings, minimize traffic accidents by train and secure rail travel.

The two flyoves are designed attractively by taking the shape of a horseshoe back to back. The project of two flyovers started in October 2019 and is targeted for completion by the end of 2020. The total value of the Tanjung Barat flyover project is around IDR 163 billion and the Lenteng Agung flyover project is IDR 143 billion.
