Newcastle United Striker Joelinton Threatened With Sanctions After Being Caught With A Haircut

JAKARTA - Newcastle United's expensive player Joelinton is facing sanctions after violating COVID-19 regulations. The 24-year-old Brazilian striker came out to cut his hair and posted a photo of him on the Instragram page before it was deleted.

The UK, which has the highest COVID-19 death toll in Europe, has implemented a nationwide lockdown since January 5 to combat a new variant of the highly contagious coronavirus, with salons and other non-essential businesses closed.

"We are disappointed with the image spread by Joelinton," a club spokesman told Reuters by Antara, Sunday, January 31. "There is a clear COVID-19 protocol and the club continues to guide and educate its players about their responsibilities.

"The club will take appropriate action internally."

Newcastle are the first Premier League team to be hit by the coronavirus outbreak earlier this season, which resulted in their training ground being closed for 10 days.

Joelinton, who arrived at Newcastle on a £ 40 million ($ 54.84 million) transfer from Hoffenheim in July 2019, has failed to prove an expensive player, scoring just seven goals in 66 games across all competitions.

Newcastle, who have plummeted to 16th in the table following a five-game losing streak in the league, lost 2-0 away to Everton on Saturday night.
