JAKARTA - Sleeping seven to eight hours a day is not enough to restore energy. According to Saundra Dalton-Smith in his TED Ideas upload, there are 7 types of breaks that need to be done to feel recharged after being productive for weekdays.

Physical rest

The definition of physical rest is known to be the most familiar. Almost everyone has the same definition of physical rest. Stop any activity and spend time in bed or in a relaxed state often, every weekend.

Take a mental break

The mind continues to spin, even during lunch breaks. In fact, drowsiness can be lost, defeated by thoughts that can't stop running. This means that a person needs mental rest. Dalton-Smith's advice, you don't need to spend a lot of time to rest mentally.

It is enough to write down disturbing thoughts. Give yourself an hour or two off after work, without thinking about anything. If it is difficult, you can enjoy listening to music or watching humorous shows.

Sensory rest

Staring at the screen all day and every day, city noise, smartphone notifications, everything the five senses perceive are sensory stimulating. The five senses convey information to the brain and continuously respond with various activities, making the brain need rest.

Try to close your eyes mindfully and turn off the device. Dalton-Smith advises, give a brief silence for the gift.

Social break

Meeting and socializing with colleagues or relationships is very draining. So that the energy expended in balance with what is stored, one time you can limit the meeting.

For example, in two days on a weekend only meet close people who know your way of thinking without any long explanations.

Emotional rest

Taking pauses to express yourself simply relieves the burden or pressure. This means that emotional rest needs to be done by allocating time and space for yourself.

Dalton gave an example, you can do this by asking yourself 'how are you today?'. Answers need to be expressed honestly, if it's not okay, then tell them.

Simply put, this type of rest can give you the opportunity to take off the pretense and become aware of each other's feelings.

Creative break
