Sri Mulyani Affirms No New Taxes For Credit Vouchers And Electricity Tokens

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati said that the imposition of VAT and taxes will not affect the sales of mobile credit, prepaid SIM cards, and electricity tokens or vouchers. This was disclosed following the issue of the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) 06/PMK.03/2021.

"So far, the value-added tax and the income tax on credits/prepaid SIM cards, electricity tokens and vouchers have been running. So there are no new tax collections", Sri Mulyani said via her @smindrawati Instagram account in Jakarta, Saturday, January 30.

According to Sri Mulyani, the provisions contained in PMK 06/2021 have no effect on the price of prepaid credit/SIM cards, electricity tokens, and vouchers.

The minister explained that this provision aims to simplify the imposition of Value-Added Tax (PPN) and Income Tax (PPh) on prepaid credit/card, electricity tokens, and vouchers and to provide legal certainty.

As for the simplification of the imposition, namely the VAT levy for pulses/starter packs, the VAT collection is simplified up to the level II distributor (server).

"So that retail-level distributors who sell to consumers don't need to collect VAT anymore", wrote Sri Mulyani.

For electricity token VAT, VAT is not charged on the value of the token, but only on sales services/commissions received by selling agents.

For vouchers, VAT is not imposed on the value of the vouchers because vouchers are a means of payment equivalent to money. VAT, continued Sri Mulyani, is only charged for sales/marketing services in the form of commissions or price differences obtained by selling agents.

Meanwhile, the collection of income tax article 22 on purchases by credit distributors and article 23 income tax on sales/payment services for electricity token agents and vouchers is an advance tax for distributors/agents that can be credited or deducted in their annual tax return.

"So it is not true that there are new tax levies for credits, prepaid SIM cards, electricity tokens and vouchers", said Sri Mulyani, written in capital letters.

The Minister of Finance reiterated that the taxes that people pay also return for the people and development. "If you are annoyed by corruption, let's eradicate it together!", exclaimed the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
