Huawei Had Dominated The Global Mobile Market, This Is How It Is Now
JAKARTA - After Huawei's actions were limited by the United States (US), the ranking of the technology company from China has now dropped dramatically. Recently, the research institute reported his condition.
According to a Counterpoint Research report, Huawei shipped 33 million of its mobile products globally in the 4th quarter of 2020. This is a 41 percent drop compared to the previous year in the same quarter.
Huawei consumers also shrank to touch only 8 percent. The technology company from China is unable to compete with other companies such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Samsung and Apple.
The report from Counterpoint Research is in line with research firm Canalys. They say that in the 4th quarter of 2020, Huawei is predicted to ship 32 million smartphones alone.
This number has fallen 43 percent from the previous period in 2019. It is the first time the Chinese technology giant has been knocked out of the top 5 in the last 6 years, Canalys reported.
"Huawei is dramatically shrinking in most markets due to US sanctions," said Canalys researcher Amber Liu as quoted by CNBC International, Friday, January 29.
Although Huawei's position declined, during 2020 the Chinese technology company took third place in terms of market share. Apple's rank displaced by the number of shipments that jumped significantly, the impact of sales of the iPhone 12.
In fact, in the second quarter of 2020, Huawei controlled global smartphone sales. The company succeeded in replacing Samsung from the top ranks. Unfortunately, this condition did not last long.
The Trump administration, through the US Department of Commerce, has successfully included Huawei's name on the black list. The US has imposed sanctions on Huawei, so the company has difficulty getting Google services, namely, Google Play Store, Gmail, Google Maps to YouTube.
This has resulted in Huawei mobile phones not equipped with a number of popular services, so that the global market is not interested in buying their products.
For its cellphone operating system, Huawei also developed its own OS called HarmonyOS. However, this action has not been able to disturb the market share of the Android operating system which is the prima donna in the world.
