2021 Provisional Calendar Has Been Released, Formula E Cancels Paris E-Prix

JAKARTA - Thursday, January 28, Formula E canceled the series of races in Paris due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic and said the planned E-Prix in Seoul, South Korea, and Sanya, China were not yet clear.

The seventh season of electric car racing, which the FIA has now recognized as a world championship, will kick off in Saudi Arabia on February 26 and 27 with two-night races in Diriyah.

"Health and safety considerations make organizing the specific E-Prix Paris around Les Invalides too complex in Season 7", said the official Formula E-statement as quoted by Reuters.

"Therefore, it has been agreed with the City of Paris as a replacement for the edition of the Eighth Season".

Paris will return to the 2022 calendar.

The revised calendar presenting the race schedule through June consists of eight races, with a number of other races to be confirmed in early European spring.

"We are committed to presenting a global calendar worthy of our first season as a world championship", said Chief Executive Jamie Reigle.

The April 10 slot is confirmed for Rome, while Valencia will occupy the April 24 slot, which was previously Paris' share.

Monaco has not changed its schedule and will still be held on May 8.

The Moroccan city of Marrakesh will host the E-Prix on May 22, one day before the race in Seoul is due, and two races in the Chilean capital Santiago have been postponed from January to June 5 and 6.

Racing in China on March 13 has been temporarily suspended, as is Mexico City.

Formula E says strict protocols in place with host cities will ensure the safety and security of competitors.

Last year's racing season ended with six races taking place in Berlin, Germany in August following a series of cancellations.

The Valencia E-Prix will take place at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, where the teams have tested in the last three years, which is outside the city in eastern Spain.
