History Of Waqf In Mecca, The Benefits Felt By Hajj Pilgrims From Aceh

JAKARTA - Habib Bugak Al Asyi and a number of merchants from Aceh bought a plot of land in Makkah in 1809 AD. The land in Makkah was donated to pilgrims from Aceh.

Quoted by VOI on the website of the Indonesian Waqf Board, Friday, January 29, Habib Bugak was a figure who collected money to buy the land from the people of Aceh. After the money is collected. Habib Bugak bought a plot of land around Bab Al Fath, located between the Marwah and the Grand Mosque. Purchases were made in the era of the Ustmaniah Kingdom.

An inn was then established to accommodate prospective pilgrims from Aceh. That way they don't need to be confused about finding a temporary shelter while in Makkah.

On the acehprov.go.id site, two Acehnese figures, Dr. Al Yasa 'Abubakar (former Head of the NAD Islamic Sharia Service) and Dr. Azman Isma'il, MA (Grand Imam of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque in Banda Aceh) wrote about the origin of Habib Bugak Asyi's waqf.

Based on the Waqf pledge deed kept by the Waqf Land Management Agency (Nazhir), Habib Bugak pledged waqf in 1222 Hijriyah. The pledge was made in front of the Makkah Syar'iyah Court Judge.

In the pledge it was stated that the waqf building was not only for pilgrims, but also for Acehnese who lived in Makkah.

"If for some reason there are no more Acehnese who come to Makkah to go on the pilgrimage then this waqf house is used for the residence of Jawi (nusantara) students who study in Makkah," said the piece of the vow.

"If for some reason there are no longer any students from the archipelago studying in Mecca, this waqf house is used for the residence of Makkah students studying at the Haram Mosque. If they are also not there, this waqf is handed over to the Imam of the Haram Mosque to pay for their needs. Masjidil Haram," continued the vow.

During the government of Saudi Arabia, to be precise in the era of King Malik Sa'ud bin Abdul Azis, the land purchased by Habib Bugak was affected by renovations for the development of the Grand Mosque. In exchange, the government provides compensation in the form of money.

Nazhir then used the money to buy two other lands, namely in the Ajyad area. Each location is 500 and 700 meters from the Grand Mosque. The first land will be built by a five-star hotel with about 350 rooms and 1,000 units, respectively.

Nazhir also bought two other land areas covering an area of 1,600 square meters and 850 square meters in the Aziziah Area, where in 2009 a special cottage was built to accommodate worshipers from the Aceh Embarkation.

Since 2006, the proceeds from the management of waqf assets have been given to pilgrims from Aceh. In fact, in 2008, the Aceh government received IDR 14.54 billion from Baitul Asyi. The money was then given to the Aceh pilgrims, and each received approximately IDR 4 million.
