When WhatsApp Was Abandoned By Users, Telegram Made A Tool To Migrate Conversation Data From Other Applications
JAKARTA - The controversy over WhatsApp's new privacy policy has not subsided. Until now, the migration flow of WhatsApp users from around the world is still ongoing. And in the midst of this condition, Telegram is known to be developing tools that will make it easier to migrate chat from other applications, including WhatsApp.
This feature is part of patch 7.4 which was released yesterday, Wednesday, January 27th. It's just that, new application updates are available for the iOS version only. And yesterday, Telegram uploaded the same patch twice.
On the second upload, the company decided to remove the chat migration tool. This move indicates that Telegram is still developing this feature, before it actually announces it to the public.
Luckily, 9to5Mac managed to try the service of this new Telegram feature. Based on update notes 7.4, users will be able to move chats from WhatsApp, Line, KakaoTalk, and other chat applications that are not mentioned in more detail.
For example, the 9to5Mac team tried to use this tool to move chats from WhatsApp to telegram. In this experiment, the trial team found that users could find this feature located in the "More" menu in WhatsApp.
“You only need to open the More menu located in the message window then swipe the Export Chat option. Later, WhatsApp will create a ZIP file containing all conversations with the interlocutor, which can then be transferred to Telegram via the iOS Share Sheet," wrote the 9to5Mac team.
Furthermore, Telegram will ask for information related to who the user is having the conversation with. Then the messages will be synced automatically, both on the user's device and the other person's device. All messages that are transferred later will also receive a similar label.
It is known, some users have not been able to taste this new feature. Although the iOS version of the Telegram application has been updated. On the other hand, Telegram also has not confirmed whether this feature can be used by all users.
However, it seems that it is only a matter of time until finally this new feature is actually announced by the company. Moreover, now there are many users who are certainly reluctant and afraid of losing their conversation data if they move platforms. And the presence of this new feature is expected to be a solution that can increase Telegram users.
