Defense Minister Prabowo Affirms Commitment To Improve Fisherman Welfare
Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto expressed his commitment to improving the welfare of fishermen during a working visit to Pangandaran Regency, West Java.
"I am grateful to be able to participate in seeing the activities of the brothers and sisters, especially the fishermen because fishermen must improve their level of life and income," Prabowo said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 17.
During the working visit accompanied by the former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti, Prabowo handed over 20 boat engines to fishermen in the area.
Prabowo is also committed to adding assistance in the form of 10 ships, complete with fishing equipment, to support the activities of fishermen.
"I want to participate in helping, hopefully it can be useful," said Prabowo.
According to Prabowo, fishermen have a vital role in Indonesia because they struggle to provide protein intake for the community.
"Protein providers are very important. I also talked to Mrs. Susi how we want to continue to empower our fishermen," said the Minister of Defense.
Given the vital role of the fishermen, Prabowo invites all parties to work together to think about the fate of the fishermen.
"For that, we are thinking about how to improve their lives as soon as possible. That's a problem that must be resolved," said Prabowo.
At that moment, Prabowo also thanked Susi for inviting her to Pangandaran.
"Susi's mother has taught me a lesson. I can come close to seeing the situation and meeting the fishermen," added Prabowo.
