Takes Over Huawei Market, Apple Breaks The Highest Sales Record
JAKARTA - Research company, Counterpoint Research announced their analysis result of the smartphone industry in the fourth quarter of 2020. Based on research, Apple has shown excellent performance. Meanwhile, Huawei experienced a major decline.
The Cupertino-based giant gets a sizeable increase in shipments by 22 percent during the quarter. This high sale is due to the significant sales of the iPhone 12 series.
Apart from that, the increase in sales was also helped by the high market demand, especially for those looking to upgrade their old Apple iPhone models.
The huge choice of variants is also the reason why iPhone sales are so good. Users can choose between the iPhone SE 2020, iPhone 11 series, to the iPhone 12 series according to their budget.
During Q4 2020, Apple iPhone shipments exceeded 90.1 million units, which is a record compared to other quarters. It also gives the company a global market share of 23.4 percent.
Canalys analyst Nicole Peng added that "In China, Apple is taking the perfect opportunity to seize Huawei's market share in the upper class."
According to Apple CEO Tim Cook in an interview with Reuters, "We have two of the three best-selling smartphones in urban China."
The fourth quarter is typically the strongest for the company due to the launch of new iPhones during the second half of this year.
Apple overtook Samsung, although the South Korean brand also got a 6.2 percent year-on-year increase, hitting 73.9 million units and achieving a 19.1 percent market share.
Meanwhile, Huawei was hit by a drastic drop in shipments due to US sanctions, where shipments plunged 42.4 percent to 32.3 million units.
