Zuckerberg Versus Apple Over New Privacy Policy?
JAKARTA - Mark Zuckerberg lashed out at Apple in his financial presentation speech in the 4th quarter of 2020. The criticism attacked the privacy policy issued by its competitors.
Apple issued a privacy policy that asks its users to share their data for ad tracking purposes. Online advertising is predicted to take a hit because users don't want to share information.
For additional information, Facebook reaps the most profits from advertising. Therefore, the Facebook boss criticized the decision issued by Apple.
According to Zuckerberg, the policy will "threaten the questionable advertising that millions of small businesses rely on to find and reach their customers".
The Facebook boss said that Apple is taking advantage of its position to scale up its own services, particularly the iMessage service. This is because the service is a competitor to two of its services, namely Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.
"iMessage is the main key to their ecosystem", said Zuckerberg as quoted by CNBC International, Wednesday, January 28.
"iMessage comes pre-installed on every iPhone and they prefer ith API and private permissions, that's why iMessage is the most widely used messaging service in the US", he added.
Zuckerberg has openly said that the privacy policy will affect businesses in the world. The company directs its users to choose homemade applications. Not only that, but he also revealed that Apple's policies "interfere with the way our apps and other apps work".
“Apple might say they're doing this to help people, but the steps clearly track the interests of their competitors. We and others will fight this in the future", said Zuckerberg in his speech.
