Turns Out, There Is A Secret Clause In James Rodriguez And Everton's Contract

JAKARTA - Recent details about James Rodriguez's deal with Everton have emerged in recent days, including a 'secret' clause that could see his contract renewed for another year.

The Colombia international player moved to the Toffees from Real Madrid last summer and signed a two-year contract with the Premier League club.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Thursday, January 28, the aforementioned deal includes a one-year extension clause, which will be automatically triggered if James appears in any number of games.

However, as the British publication shows, Everton could extend the deal for an additional 12 months even if the 29-year-old playmaker fails to reach that tally of appearances.

Asked about the details of James' deal, coach Carlo Ancelotti avoided discussing this' secret 'clause.

"Really, we didn't. Speaking about this, at the moment we are just happy that he is here and he is happy to be here," Ancelotti said at a press conference ahead of the match against Leicester City.

"So if we are happy, he is happy. There is no problem signing the contract".

"It is not my job to extend my contract with players. I can only advise the club to extend the contract and I can advise players to stay with us. That's all."

James scored a goal in a 1-1 draw match against Leicester in the Premier League on Thursday, 28 January.
