Not Defending Ibrahimovic, But The Word 'Voodoo' Uttered To Lukaku May Have Come From Everton
JAKARTA - Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku were teammates at Manchester United. However, they have no trouble playing the role of rivals in the Milan derby, in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Tuesday night.
They faced each other, colliding with harsh words, which resulted in both receiving a yellow card. This is the talking point in the match.
Both players use many colorful languages and among the alleged comments, Ibrahimovic has been accused of racism.
"Call your mother, do your voodoo sh * t," were the words Ibrahimovic allegedly said.
"Fuck you and your wife, you little bitch," Lukaku replied.
The word 'voodoo' spoken by Ibrahimovic is what attracts the most attention. However, to get to the roots, we need to go back to Lukaku's days at Everton.
In January 2017, when the Belgian striker turned down a contract extension from the Toffees, major shareholder Farhad Moshiri claimed voodoo was to blame.
"We offered him a better deal than Chelsea and his agent came to Finch Farm to sign a contract," said Moshiri, quoted by MARCA, Thursday, January 28.
"Robert (Elstone, Everton chief executive) was there, everything was ready, there were several reporters outside, then in the meeting, Rom (Lukaku) called his mother.
"He said he was on a pilgrimage in Africa or somewhere and he had voodoo, and he got the message that he had to go to Chelsea."
However, Lukaku ended up joining Manchester United, not Chelsea.
As a devout Catholic, Lukaku has firmly denied claims of voodoo's influence in the rejection of his Everton contract. He threatened legal action against Moshiri.
