Indonesian Navy Thwarts Illegal Fuel Smuggling In The Singapore Strait

BATAM - The Indonesian Navy thwarted the transportation of fuel oil allegedly illegally in the Singapore Strait. This operation was carried out by KRI Alamang-644, commanded by Marine Lieutenant Colonel (P) Mochamad Fuad Hasan.

The Commander of the 1st Fleet Command (Danguskamla) Marine Security Group, Laksma TNI Yayan Sofiyan, explained that the success of KRI Alamang-644 in thwarting illegal oil activities was not long after the implementation of the Consolidation of Marine Security Operations.

This operation was emphasized on the instructions of Kasal Admiral TNI Yudo Margono and Pangkoarmada I TNI Admiral Abdul Rasyid K. This instruction emphasized all Elemental Commanders of KRI BKO Guskamla Koarmada I to carry out strict law enforcement at sea.

"As a follow-up to the Marine Security Operations Consolidation, KRI Alamang-644 carried out an inspection of two ships suspected of carrying illegal fuel in the Singapore Strait, namely KM. Ringgo Natuna 1 (GT 30) with a diesel load of 10,000 liters and KM. Sukses Sejahtera (GT 27) with 8,000 liters of diesel fuel, ”said the statement quoted by VOI, Wednesday, January 27.

The two ships committed criminal acts violating Law no. 17 of 2008 concerning shipping with special / dangerous goods in the form of diesel fuel is not equipped with documents and is not included in the manifest list. From checks, it was found that crew members without a sailor's book, including the skipper, did not match their 60 mile limited skill, and the safety equipment was not complete.

From the results of the initial inspection, the two ships were escorted to Lanal Tanjung Balai Karimun for further processing and to find out the origin of the fuel.
