This Rocker Who Failed To Become An AC / DC Vocalist Now Has A New Band, Called LA Maybe
JAKARTA - Do you still remember the name Alvi Robinson? Yes, right! He is an aspiring AC/DC vocalist who failed to pass an audition in 2016.
Robinson joined the tribute band Thunderstruck in 2013 and landed a big shot as one of four singers auditioning to replace Brian Johnson on the AC/DC Rock or Bust tour.
Robinson lost his job as an HVAC technician because the audition was so secret that he couldn't tell his boss why he suddenly had to leave his job.
Although Guns N' Roses vocalist Axl Rose was appointed as the interim vocalist, Robinson will forever have a story as he practiced a complete set with the AC/DC members.
Now, he's reappearing as the frontman of a new band - playing original songs - The LA Maybe. The group recently released the music video for Mr. Danger.
To Loudwire, Robinson opened up about what had happened in his life since that important audition. Here's the full statement:
"Auditioning for the AC/DC vocalist, I really didn't have high hopes of getting a chance to appear in a concert ... but getting their emails saying they were going on tour without me was really painful. People kept telling me that I have to be thankful that I was even considered replacing Brian Johnson from the start, but they simply didn't understand my aspirations for a grand stage and 50,000 spectators.
I started to take myself a little more seriously at first, hoping the new approach (and the stamp of AC/DC approval) would somehow quickly get me into at least the limelight. This new spirit fades away as fast as it comes as I stroll around the small bar, barely able to afford my beer from the nightly onstage earning.
I turned away from the world of music and occupied myself in my daily work and found great release in attainable daily goals.
Regarding my regular income, I was asked to lead the Guns N' Roses tribute band, Nightrain. I'm reluctant to play on stage, not expecting much but looking for a chance to sing some of my favorite songs. Ultimately, balancing the band and my work life became impossible, so I threw away my Axl wig.
A month after this, I was contacted by Dallas Dwight of The LA Maybe with an offer to make original music, which has always been my passion.
We jumped in immediately and shared ideas. Four days later I was in the vocal booth making tracks. Before I could even think about what I was doing, we had finished a full album.
Now, with the album due March 26th, we are looking forward to breaking out of the lockdown and giving some serious stage time to show you all what we can really do! "
