Earthquake Shakes Lebak, Feels Up To Sukabumi

JAKARTA - An earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 4.9 occurred in Lebak, Banten. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the sea, 91 kilometers southwest of Lebak.

According to the official website of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake occurred on Monday, February 17 at 19.46 WIB. The location of the earthquake was at 7.36 south latitude and 106.6 east longitude with a depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake with a scale of III MMI was felt in the Cikotok, Cihara, Bayah, Malingping, Rangkasbitung, Ciptagelar, Panyauangan, Cilograng, Pandeglang, Banjarsari, and Sukabumi areas.

Meanwhile, launching from sukabumiupdate.com, a number of Pajampampang residents felt the tremors of the earthquake.

"The vibration was quite big, but it was only a few seconds for me," explained a resident of Cikangkung Village, Ciracap District, Sukabumi Regency.

This earthquake shaking was also reported by residents of Waluran District, Sukabumi Regency. "Taken five seconds, it was enough because I was sitting relaxed on the porch of the house," said Drajat, a Waluran resident.

Meanwhile, impacts and damage have not been reported from the earthquake this time. "I am still monitoring and waiting for reports from officers in the field. Hopefully there will be no damage and impact, ”explained the Sukabumi Regency BPBD officer, Eka Widiaman.
