The Potential Of Indonesian Waqf Touches IDR 180 Trillion Per Year, Vice President Ma'ruf: Not Yet Used

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that the potential of waqf has not been fully utilized as a means to encourage national development. Even though each year the number of waqf hits the figure of trillions of rupiah.

"The potential of Indonesian waqf can reach Rp180 trillion per year, but the huge potential of waqf cannot be utilized properly," said Vice President Ma'ruf at the launch of the National Movement for Cash Waqf (GNWU) at the State Palace in Jakarta. January.

Most of the Muslims in Indonesia, he added, still recognize property or land waqf for social worship activities, such as the provision of mosques, madrasas and tombs.

As one of the teachings of Islam, waqf contains messages of concern, sharing and efforts to distribute the welfare of the community.

"Waqf also has an economic dimension, considering that waqf can be used as an instrument in overcoming gaps and improving the economic welfare of the community," explained Vice President Ma'ruf.

The launching of the GNWU is one of the follow-ups to the third focus of efforts to develop Islamic economics and finance in Indonesia, namely the development of Islamic social funds through cash waqf.

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati in her speech said that the Islamic economic and financial system in Indonesia is universal and inclusive.

So that its development is expected to realize the welfare of the people through the application of maqashid sharia principles.

"The Money Waqf National Movement is expected to further strengthen and develop the various initiatives that have been running so far," said Sri Mulyani.
