Tarakan Rocked, 5.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Early Days

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 rocked the northeastern region of Tarakan, North Kalimantan, on Saturday morning at around 00.40 WIB.

Reported on the official BMKG website, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at coordinates 6.5 north latitude and 121.04 east longitude, or precisely located at sea at a distance of 518 northeast of Tarakan, Kaltara. The depth of the earthquake is 10 km. BMKG appealed to the surrounding community to be careful of aftershocks that may occur.
