EU Industry Chief Meets OpenAI CEO To Discuss Implementation Of AI Rules
JAKARTA - EU industry chief Thierry Breton will meet OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in San Francisco next month to discuss how the company will enforce the block's leading AI rules. This was said by EU officials on Tuesday, May 30.
Breton will also discuss an AI pact with Altman with the aim of getting OpenAI to join a group of other European and non-European companies to implement AI rules before their entry into force in 2026, the EU official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Reuters reported that Altman last week annoyed Breton after threatening to quit Europe if it became too difficult to comply with the bloc's forthcoming AI laws.

In response, Breton, who drafted the new rules, said they were non-negotiable.
"Breton will discuss the practical aspects of implementing the AI Act. It will be a working session, with in-depth discussions on data sets," one of the EU officials told Reuters.
Last week, after meeting with Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Breton said the US tech giant and the European Commission would discuss a voluntary AI pact to assist companies in anticipating implementation of AI legislation.
