The Existence Of PKB 0 Percent, Gaikindo: Can Accelerate The EV Ecosystem In Indonesia

JAKARTA - The trend of electric vehicles is global and is also warmly welcomed by the Indonesian government. Various regulations that benefit consumers have also been issued by the government.

In addition to setting a vehicle tax exemption for pure battery-based vehicles, the government has also issued instructions to provide subsidies of IDR 7 million for two-wheeled electric vehicles.

The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) has full confidence that the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem or electric vehicle will be formed with the existence of a Ministry of Home Affairs Regulation (PERMENDAGRI) which stipulates a Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) for private battery-based electric vehicles of 0 percent.

"There is no problem, either," said General Secretary GAIKINDO Kukuh Kumara, quoted from ANTARA, Tuesday, May 30.

He continued, with the determination of tax exemption as stated in Permendagri No. 6/2023 concerning the Basic Imposition of Motor Vehicle Taxes, Transfer Fees and Heavy Equipment Taxes in 2023, it will provide benefits to potential consumers who want to switch to electric vehicles.

In line with that, an academic from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) Yannes Martinus Pasaribu said that the presence of the Permendagri needed to be used by electric consumers in Indonesia.

"Ti battery-based electric vehicles (BEVs) are subject to PKB and Motor Vehicle Names (BBNKB) of 0 percent of the basis for taxation. This can be considered profitable for consumers of electric vehicles in Indonesia because they will get lower tax benefits or tax exemptions," Yannes said in a short message.

Even so, the tax exemption for pure electric vehicles must be accompanied by adequate infrastructure to avoid anxiety and also build confidence in potential users.

To create a faster and more developed electric vehicle ecosystem, he hopes that the government can provide significant relief to EV owners through the addition of electric power in homes specifically for charging EVs, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled.
