The SAR Team For The Evacuation Of 62 Passengers Of The Engine Dead Ship In The Waters Of Saponda Konawe
The Kendari SAR Team evacuated 62 ship passengers who had engine failures in the waters of Saponda Island, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi.
Acting Head of Basarnas Kendari Hidayat said the ship's passengers sailed from Minui, Central Sulawesi, at around 09.00 WITA, Sunday, May 28 to Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi.
However, the ship experienced engine failure in Saponda waters, at around 11.30 WITA.
"For passengers, there are 53 people, three of whom are toddlers and crew members along with the captain of the ship are nine people. So the total number of passengers on the ship is 62 people," he said as quoted by ANTARA.
Basarnas then evacuated the passengers of KM 2R after receiving a report from KSOP Kendari.
"Initially the KN 370 went straight there but was constrained by the main engine and water entered through koker as so that the KN 370 ship returned and I immediately ordered the Pacitan Ship to get out to evacuate and at 18.00 KN SAR Pacitan found KM 2R," he said.
The ship's passengers were evacuated using the Pacitan SAR KN and arrived at the Kendari Basarnas pier at around 21.30 WITA. Meanwhile, KM 2R, which experienced an engine failure, docked in front of the Kendari Bay estuary.
"For all 53 passengers, including nine crew members and the captain of the ship. As for the cause of the engine failure of KM 2R, we do not know for sure because there are many obstacles so we cannot comment yet," he said.
Marwan (53), one of the ship's passengers, said that when the ship experienced engine failure, many people cried, especially since the wave conditions reached 2-3 meters.
