Sri Mulyani: Joe Biden Will 'Help Global Economy' And China's Recovery

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated that the inauguration of the 46th President of the United States (US) Joe Biden will bring hope for a global economic recovery that has been depressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The global economy is still facing uncertainty. The US, which today has a new president, certainly hopes to recover soon and provide certainty for the world economy," said Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani at the 11th Kompas100 CEO Forum event in Jakarta, Thursday.

Not only that, Sri Mulyani said that China's economy which began to show recovery even though it was still growing at below 3 percent would also create certainty for the global economy.

Moreover, Sri Mulyani said that many countries began to have hopes with the discovery of the COVID-19 vaccine so that several countries had vaccinated in December 2020, such as the UK and the United States.

According to Sri Mulyani, these several aspects were able to create an atmosphere of optimism this year even though the world economy would still be shrouded in uncertainty due to the pandemic in line with the second wave.

He explained that the second wave occurred due to several countries entering the winter season so that the number of cases jumped high, such as in European countries, the US, China and Japan.

For Indonesia, Sri Mulyani ensured that the government will continue to use various policy instruments in a timely, flexible, adaptive, transparent and accountable manner in controlling the impact of the pandemic.

He emphasized that the Indonesian Government is taking the same steps as other countries, namely combining fiscal, monetary and financial sector policies to prevent the economic downturn.

"The most important thing is that all stakeholders work together, collaborate, work together to restore the economy and welfare of our society," said Sri Mulyani.
