Joe Biden To Sign 15 Executive Orders Upon Appointment
JAKARTA - Joe Biden will sign 15 executive orders, after he was sworn in as US President on Wednesday local time. The executive order is to overturn a policy imposed by President Donald Trump previously.
"To tackle the pandemic, economic, climate change and racial injustice crises, Biden will sign an executive order and memorandum in the Oval Office in the afternoon, and ask agencies to take steps in two additional areas," said new press secretary Jen Psaki, as reported by Reuters.
The measures include mandatory wearing of masks on federal property and for federal employees and orders to set up new offices in the White House to coordinate the handling of the coronavirus.
Joe Biden will also embark on a process to re-enter the Paris climate agreement and issue a comprehensive order to tackle climate change, including revoking presidential permits granted for the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline.
Among a series of orders addressing immigration, Biden will repeal Donald Trump's emergency declaration which is helping to fund the construction of a border wall and end travel bans in several Muslim-majority countries.
"The first day of plans is just the beginning of a series of executive actions that Biden will take soon after taking office," Psaki added.
"In the coming days and weeks we will announce additional executive actions that address this challenge and fulfill the President-elect's promise to the American people," said Psaki.
Subsequent actions will include lifting transgender Americans' bans on military service, and replacing policies that block US funding for overseas programs related to abortion.
