Ferrari CEO: Autonomous Technology Stays Away

JAKARTA - According to Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna, the Italian car company does not have many plans to change the company's future goals and is different from other manufacturers.

At the "Future of the Car" conference held by the Financial Times, Vigna discussed the direction the legendary brand will take in the next few years, including how Ferrari responded to automation and the company's path to carbon neutral by 2030.

"In the cabin, all cars will have four types of software, namely performance, comfort, entertainment, and autonomous software. Finally, we don't care," he said, quoted from Businessinsider, May 9.

It's no surprise that Ferrari isn't interested in embedding autonomous technology in their future cars given the brand's characteristics since its founding focus on offering high-interest performance and driving with its car.

Although many automotive enthusiasts think some Ferrari models may sell more if added semi-autonomous technology. But it looks like Ferrari doesn't want to get involved with the technology.

Previously, Vigna, who has been the boss of Ferrari since September 2021, had confirmed that in 2022 her company would never build an autonomous vehicle.

Ferrari's stance on EVs with autonomous technology is clearly clashing with other company strategies such as Ford, Tesla, and recently Porsche which are also interested in developing by collaborating with Mobileye.

"We remain focused on product exclusivity even when we move to EV vehicles. With that, the company produces only less limited cars than demand," he concluded.
