Congo Interested In Buying Indonesian-made Aircraft And Tanks

JAKARTA - The Democratic Republic of Congo expressed its interest in buying aircraft made by PT Dirgantara Indonesia, namely CN235 and N-219 Nurtanio, as well as several types of tanks made by PT Pindad.

"There are many products that are seen, the list is long. They (Kongo, ed.) are interested in discussing prices, delivery times, and others. They are interested in buying our planes, CN235, they are interested in N-219, our new aircraft, and Indonesian-made mediumium tanks," Prabowo Subianto said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 11.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo visited Indonesia for the first time to explore opportunities for cooperation in the defense and military sectors.

In Indonesia, Jean-Pierre Bemba took the time to visit PT Pindad and PT Dirgantara Indonesia in Bandung, West Java, Thursday.

In Pindad, the Minister of Defense of Congo, who was accompanied by the Director General of Defense Potential (Dirjenpothan) of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense Major General TNI Mohammad Fadjar, was greeted directly by the President Director of PT Pindad Abraham Mose.

Bemba said Congo wanted to explore Indonesia's defense industry and explore cooperation opportunities.

"We are very honored by the welcome that has been given by PT Pindad. The purpose of our visit this time is to review and explore the Indonesian defense industry and we are open to collaborating. We hope this visit can improve good relations between the two countries, especially in the defense sector," Jean-Pierre Bemba said as quoted from PT Pindad's official website in Jakarta.

At the head office of PT Pindad, Bemba saw firsthand the production of the Indonesian-made defense equipment and tactical vehicles. The Deputy PM of Congo also had time to try out Pindad's latest weapon, namely an AM-1 assault rifle and anAM-1 rifle shooter who was proficient in DMR SPM-1.

After visiting PT Pindad and PT Dirgantara Indonesia in Bandung, the Minister of Defense of Congo and their entourage continued their journey to Jakarta to meet the Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto.

At the Ministry of Defense, Prabowo welcomed Bemba's arrival with a welcoming ceremony in his office yard. The two defense ministers also took the time to check the troops, and a moment of silence in front of the statue of the Proclaimer of Indonesian Independence Soekarno.

The two of them continued to enter the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Hall, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, discussed cooperation opportunities, and closed the meeting by signing a letter of commitment for cooperation in the defense and military sector.

"Your Excellency, the Deputy Prime Minister shared his visit to Pindad and PT Dirgantara Indonesia in Bandung, and he is very interested and interested in our products. This is the beginning for good cooperation, and for that we are interested in continuing this collaboration," Prabowo said during a press conference after the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Deputy PM of Congo conveyed that it is important for his country to cooperate in the defense and military sector with Indonesia. He also mentioned that it is important for Congo to learn from the Indonesian defense industry.
