Checking The SOS Sign On Male Island, Basarnas Finds Nothing
JAKARTA - The National Search and Relief Agency (Basarnas) has been combing Pulau Laki, which is the location for the SOS sign on the Google Maps application. Unfortunately, Basarnas did not find anything in the search.
This was confirmed by the Operations Director of Basarnas, Brigadier General Rasman. Rasman admitted that the team that had been ordered in the search reported that they did not find any signs of needing any help on Male Island.
"This morning I told the members to check. I confirmed it with the members, they did not find anything," Rasman said when contacted, Wednesday, January 20.
Previously, Rasman said that his party had followed up on the appearance of an SOS sign in a Google Maps search on Male Island which had gone viral on social media since this morning.
Recently, netizens were shocked with an SOS sign, which is located on Male Island, Thousand Islands. In an emergency, the SOS sign is usually used by someone to ask for help. SOS stands for "save our souls" which means "save our souls".
It is known, Male Island, Thousand Islands is one of the islands close to the crash point of the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 plane.
Citizens shared a screenshot of Google Maps from the SOS point on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. They linked it to the possibility of survivors from the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 incident which fell on January 9.
Unfortunately, from VOI's search when writing Male Island on the Google Maps search page at 11.50 WIB, the SOS sign no longer appeared on the island.
