The Impact Of Not Being Able To Speak English, Says Xenophobia Jisoo Becomes Trending, What's Up?

JAKARTA - The meme 'I can't speak English' is being discussed by Indonesian Twitter users. However, this joke actually links Jisoo and Xenophobia, why?

A Twitter user created a meme in which the other three BLACKPINK members: Jennie, Rose, and Lisa spoke in English. The Twitter user wrote that Jisoo only replied "Can't speak English"

The tweets, written in Indonesian, were translated into English as "Can't speak English". That was the beginning why BLACKPINK fans called BLINKs started calling Xenophobia netizens.

Xenophobia means an extreme dislike for customs, religion, or strangers. Xenophobia relates to different points of view and is different from racism based on one's characteristics.

The term Xenophobia refers to discriminating against immigrants or people who have an identity different from the culture they profess.

Jisoo is the only BLACKPINK member who comes from South Korea while Jennie from New Zealand, Rose from Australia, and Lisa from Thailand. Jisoo's English skills compared to the other three members are different.

Considering BLACKPINK's activities are mostly carried out in South Korea, Jisoo is not required to speak English.

But on one occasion, Jisoo admitted to learning English so he could communicate with fans. Jennie also said Jisoo's English skills continued to improve and she understood BLACKPINK members' conversations with English.

However, the jokes made by Twitter users could not be accepted by BLACKPINK fans. They felt that many were teasing the way Jisoo spoke English.

The hashtags #ProtectJisoo and #XenophobiaIsNotAJoke also echoed on Twitter. Even one Jisoo fan account asked BLINK to report that there were Twitter users who underestimated Jisoo's English. What do you think?
