Uber Cup Hero Tati Sumirah Dies
JAKARTA - The badminton world in Indonesia is grieving. Tati Sumirah passed away on Thursday, February 13 at 22.30 WIB.
Tati Sumirat went to the Almighty after nine days of being treated at the ICU Friendship Hospital, Rawamangun, East Jakarta. Tati died at the age of 68 due to high blood sugar levels and lung problems.
This sad news was obtained from Reza Aditya Pratama, Tati's nephew who has been accompanying her since she was first hospitalized. "Sad news, Mrs. Tati Sumirah has passed away today, Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 22.30. Please open the door to apologize for all her sins and hopefully her spirit is Husnul Khatimah," said Reza, in a written statement received by VOI, Friday, 14 February.
Since he was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday last week, the former badminton player who was born in Jakarta, February 9, 1952 was indeed critical. Until he passed away, Tati was in a state of unconsciousness.
The funeral was held today after Friday prayers at the Kemiri Utan Kayu TPU, Rawamangun, East Jakarta. Departing from the funeral home, Jl. H Djubris RT 10 RW 08 No. 52 Kalurahan Jatinegara, Cakung District, East Jakarta.
"We feel very lost for the death of Tati Sumirah. She is not only a hero for the Tangkas Club, but also for Indonesian badminton. Thanks to her dedication, Indonesia was able to win the Uber Cup for the first time in 1975," said Juniarto Suhandinata, Deputy Chairman of PB Tangkas Jakarta.
According to Juniarto, as a badminton player, Tati's performance has progressed rapidly after joining the Tangkas Jakarta club since 1966. Tati is also a very determined player. Every time he practiced, he was always accompanied by his father, Sugrisno.
Tati is very diligent in practicing. There is no day without training for him. Badminton is everything for Tati. The pinnacle of her career was carved when presenting the Uber Cup to Mother Earth in 1975. She became the only female singles player who presented a winning score for the Garuda squad women's team.
In the final round at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, June 6, 1975, Indonesia successfully won the Uber Cup after winning 5-2 over defending champions Japan. Tati successfully contributed the winning points by bending Atsuko Tokuda, 11-5, 11-2. Meanwhile, her partner Theresia Widiastuti was defeated by Hiroe Yuki, 7-11, 1-11 and Utami Dewi was defeated by Noriko Nakayama, 5-11, 3-11.
However, in four doubles parties, the home players performed great. The Regina Masli / Minarni Sudaryanto pair displaced Etsuko Takenaka / Machiko Aizawa, 15-6, 6-15, 15-9. Then, Imelda Wigoena / Theresia Widiastuti won over Hiroe Yuki / Mika Ikeda, 15-4, 15-9. Next, Regina / Minarni overcame resistance Hiroe Yuki / Mika Ikeda, 15-8, 15-11, and Imelda / Theresia overthrew Etsuko Takenaka / Machiko Aizawa, 17-14, 15-0.
