Qualcomm Officially Announces Snapdragon 870 5G Chipset
JAKARTA - Qualcomm has again announced its newest chipset, the Snapdragon 870 5G (SM8250-AC) as the newest member of the Snapdragon 800 chipset series. This chipset is also the successor to the Snapdragon 865 Plus.
The Snapdragon 870 offers increased performance, including a gaming experience with Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming, 5G Sub-6Ghz, and mmWave and a very intuitive Artificial Intelligence (AI).
"Building on the success of the Snapdragon 865 and 865 Plus, the Snapdragon 870 is designed to answer the needs of the cellular and OEM industry," said Vice President, Product Management of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., Kedar Kondap in a statement.
Kondap continued that Snapdragon 870 will later be used by several OEM vendors including Motorola, iQOO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.
In terms of specifications, the Snapdragon 870 is a 7nm chipset like the Snapdragon 865 and 865 Plus. This chipset has a Kryo 585 CPU clocked at 3.2GHz, 100MHz more than the main core of Snapdragon 865.
As for the graphics processing system, the chipset is equipped with Adreno 650. However, it is not known what the clock speed is, whether it is running at 587 MHz belonging to SD865 or 670MHZ belonging to SD865 +.
The Hexagon 698 and Tensor Accelerator deliver the same 15 trillion operations per second (TOPS) as the two 865 chips, so you can be sure there's no improvement on this side.
The display driver can run 1440p class panels up to 144Hz (or 4K at 60Hz) and supports HDR10 +. The Spectra 480 ISP hasn't changed either, with support for sensors up to 200MP, 8K video recording at 30fps (4K at 120fps), high dynamic range video using the HDR10 + and Dolby Vision standards.
In addition, there is a Snapdragon X55 5G modem which offers support for mmWave and sub-6GHz networks. This modem can provide download speeds of up to 7.5Gbps.
