Roma Cheating Makes 6 Substitution Players, But Remains Eliminated In The Coppa Italia
JAKARTA - Spezia eliminated AS Roma from the last 16 of the Italian Cup with a 4-2 victory obtained through extra time, in a match played at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, local Tuesday or Wednesday WIB.
Thanks to the win, Spezia will meet Napoli in the quarter-final match scheduled to be played on January 27, according to the official FIGC website, reported by Antara.
Spezia took the lead thanks to Andrey Galabinov's penalty in the sixth minute, before Riccardo Saponara doubled their lead in the 15th minute.
Roma were then able to narrow the gap thanks to a Lorenzo Pellegrini penalty in the 43rd minute, and leveled it to 2-2 thanks to Henrikh Mkhitaryan's goal in the 73rd minute.
In extra time, Roma had to lose Gianluca Mancini who got a red card, before then goalkeeper Pau Lopez was also sent off.
The situation was maximized by Spezia to restore the advantage through Daniele Verde's goal in the 107th minute, and Saponara scored his second goal in the 119th minute to smooth Spezia's steps.
Bryan Cristante's violation against Giulio Maggiore in the forbidden box made the referee point to the spot. Galabinov's penalty was taken to perfection, who made his first appearance as a starting player since injury on 4 October.
Saponara, who made his first appearance as a starter for Spezia, marked him with a goal to double his team's lead. Marash Kumbulla lost the ball too easily on the edge of his own penalty box, and Saponara curled a shot into the top corner of the home goal.
Before halftime Roma narrowed their gap after Ardian Ismajli's foul on Pellegrini earned the visitors a penalty. Pellegrini himself became the executioner, and he succeeded in carrying out his duties.
After wasting several chances at the start of the second half, Roma finally managed to equalize. Mkhitaryan pushed his way into the area after playing a one-two pass with Borja Mayoral, and tipped the ball past goalkeeper Titas Krapikas.
After a match at normal time does not produce a winner, the match continues to extra time. But in the 91st minute, Roma had to play with ten players as Mancini received a second yellow card,
Just 30 seconds after Mancini left the pitch, goalkeeper Pau Lopez came out of his nest, and a foul on Roberto Piccoli cost him a red card. Goalkeeper Antonio Mirante was injured, so Daniel Fuzato came on to fill the spot in goal.
Spezia then restored the lead when Cristian Dell'Orco's cross was followed by a former Roma youth player to enter the top corner of Fuzato's goal. Saponara then closed Spezia's win with a lob from outside the penalty box in the last minute of the match.
There is one other important note in this match. Roma are known to have made six substitutions, which are not allowed in overtime. Thus, they risk being considered a 0-3 loss.
