For The Fifth Time, UI Students Win International Construction Competition
DEPOK - For the fifth time since 2019, students of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (FTUI) who are members of the Askara Victoria Team have been named Champion Winners in the competition The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Global Student Challenge 2023.
"CIOB Global Student Challenge 2023 is a competition that is assessed based on project costs and duration, supporting technical documents, and added value creation, where our student team is considered capable of producing smart, efficient, and sustainable development systems," said Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering. FTUI, Mohammed Ali Berawi in Depok, Saturday.
In addition to producing added value, the Askara Victorian Team also applied a lean construction method (lean construction) to maximize waste reduction, to use a low-carbon approach and consider commercial, technical, and sustainability aspects.
The global event related to construction management is held annually by CIOB, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 6.
The team from the FTUI Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DTSL) set aside nine other finalists from various countries. As champions, the Victorian Askara Team was invited to take part in the CIOB Member's Forum to present the University of Indonesia Learning Hub in June 2023 at Liverpool, United Kingdom.
Unlike the previous year, this competition, participants were given a case study in the form of a scenario stating that there were campus alumni who wanted to provide a number of funds to provide facilities on the participant campus. However, alumni want these facilities to provide a balance between technical, environmental and social needs.
To answer the challenge, the Victorian Askara Team, consisting of Juan Fidel Ferdani, Nada Laili Nurfadhilah, Elgytha Victoria Tybeyuliana, and Evan Ariel Christopher, proposed a solution and innovative idea called the University of the Indonesia Learning Hub, an environmentally friendly learning facility by adopting a green building and smart building design.
