Within A Week, Manado Was Rocked 69 Times By Earthquake
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Manado Geophysics Station, North Sulawesi, recorded as many as 69 earthquakes after April 28 - May 4, 2023.
"One incident was reported by the community," said Head of the Manado Geophysics Station, Tony Agus Wijaya quoting Antara.
Of the dozens of recorded earthquakes, most or as much as 65 percent had a magnitude between three and five, 33 percent had a magnitude of less than three, and two percent had a magnitude of more than five.
He explained, based on the depth of the earthquake, 58 percent of which were shallow earthquakes (less than 60 kilometers).
Furthermore, 39 percent is intermediately deep (between 60-300 kilometers, and three percent is an earthquake within (more than 300 kilometers).
He explained, from the seismicity map or the epicenter map, most earthquakes with shallow depth occurred on the Maluku sea plate, namely in the waters between North Sulawesi and North Maluku to the Talaud Islands.
Meanwhile, the earthquake reported by the community was felt by one incident that was felt in the Naha III MMI area, Talaud Islands Regency and Sitaro II MMI Islands Regency.
In the previous period, 21-27 April 2023, 71 earthquakes were recorded.
Most or 80.28 percent with a magnitude of between three and five, 18.31 percent with a magnitude of less than three and 1.41 percent with a magnitude of more than five.
A total of one earthquake in that period was reported to be felt by the community.
