Operating Soon, KRL Jogja-Solo Helps Students And Tourists Travel

JAKARTA - The Yogyakarta-Solo Electric Rail Train (KRL) will be operating soon. This train will replace the Prambanan Ekspres (Prameks) train. The Ministry of Transportation predicts the potential passengers to be transported by the train will reach 6 million people in 2021.

The Director General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Zulfikri explained that this potential is motivated by the fact that the Jogja-Solo region has become an agglomeration area with a large population of around 10 million. So that it requires adequate mass transportation.

"The results of the feasibility study for the Yogyakarta-Solo electrification development show that the potential increase in passengers in this corridor is very significant. The data states that in 2021 before we build, it is predicted that in 2021 the potential passengers will be nearly 6 million," he said, in a webinar entitled ' The Yogya-Solo KRL is here, Tuesday, January 19.

Moreover, said Zulkifli, the Jogja-Solo corridor spreads a variety of tourist attractions so that passenger traffic is predicted to be very heavy. Zulkifli hopes that the presence of the Jogja-Solo KRL can support tourism with mass and environmentally friendly public transportation.

Zulkifli believes that the presence of the Jogja-Solo KRL greatly facilitates mobility. It can even help restore the economy in areas affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The Jogja-Solo corridor is enjoyed by students or tourists as well as people who simply shop in the two areas at affordable rates," he said.

Furthermore, Zulkifli said it was planned that this line would be operated with a higher capacity than Prameks. Then, the frequency will be the same as Prameks, only the fleet will be replaced with electric trains.

"When operated commercially, the Jogja-Solo KRL will serve passengers besides Prameks as well as other generators," he explained.

Not only that, Zulkifli also projects that by 2035, with this great potential, the Yogyakarta-Solo KRL will carry 29 million passengers.

"In the future there will be a new revival with higher service provision. It is predicted that around 29 million passengers will use the mass transportation route in Jogja-Solo," he said.
