Floods Become The Most Domineering Disaster In Aceh Early 2021

JAKARTA - The Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) noted that flooding in the Aceh region in early 2021 was quite a lot. One of the triggers is high intensity rain.

"There have been 44 recorded disasters in Aceh during January 2021, and the most dominant was flood," said BPBA Chief Executive Ilyas quoted from Antara, Monday, January 18.

Pusdatin BPBA noted, floods occurred 18 times, including one flash flood in Bener Meriah Regency. Then 11 landslides and 9 fires to settlements in Bener Meriah, Langsa, North Aceh, Pidie Jaya, South Aceh and Southeast Aceh.

Then, 2 times forest and land fires (Karhutla) in Banda Aceh and South Aceh, 3 times a tornado in Sabang and Lhokseumawe and 1 time a flood and landslide in North Aceh. Losses from this incident reached IDR 9.5 billion.

Meanwhile, the Sultan Iskandar Muda, Class I Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) Aceh Besar estimates that parts of Aceh will still experience light to heavy rain for the next few days.

Head of the Class I BMKG Data and Info Section Sultan Iskandar Muda Aceh Besar, Zakaria Ahmad said, the trigger of the rain was the wind bends around the Aceh area and the whirlwind in the western region of Aceh.

"That can increase the potential for rain cloud formation in the Aceh region. This condition can cause extreme weather phenomena such as heavy rain, ”said Zakaria.
