Harun Masiku Reportedly Passed Away, Relatives Confess Shocked
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) summoned a relative as well as a fugitive lawyer in the bribery case of the appointment of member of the Indonesian Parliament, Harun Masiku, namely Daniel Tonapa Masiku.
After being examined, Daniel admitted that he did not know the whereabouts of his relative and was shocked when he heard that Harun had died.
"I was in fact shocked. So of course we are praying that the news is not true," Daniel told reporters at the KPK's Red and White House, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Tuesday, January 19.
Furthermore, in relation to the investigation, he said, the KPK explored its relationship with the former PDI-P candidate who became a bribe for former KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan. Apart from that, he was also asked if he had information regarding Harun's whereabouts.
However, he admitted that he did not know anything about the fugitive's whereabouts. Because, he had not communicated with his relatives for a long time.
"I last communicated three or four years ago," he said, adding that he knew about the case involving Harun from the media.
Even though he admits that he does not know the whereabouts of his relative, Daniel still hopes that his brother will be found soon. He even asked Harun to immediately surrender himself to the KPK so that the case against him could be investigated immediately.
"From me personally, because there are still siblings, yes, I personally asked him to immediately surrender. So that there is immediate assurance for him, certainty for his family," he said.
As previously reported, the news of Harun Masiku's passing was indeed a hot topic of discussion. One of the parties who said this fugitive had died was Boyamin Saiman, Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI).
Boyamin's conviction arose because he had never heard of any information related to Harun's movements.
Although this news has been widely heard, the KPK still believes that Harun is still alive and continues to try to find his fugitive.
"Whether his status is MD (passed away) or hidden, related to MD or not as long as we do not see where his body is, where is his grave, where is his grave, then we consider him currently still alive," said KPK Acting Deputy for Enforcement Setyo Budiyanto. during the press conference quoted by Antara.
Harun Masiku has been included in the status of the wanted list (DPO) since January 2020. For this reason, Setyo emphasized that the KPK considers Harun's not being caught as a debt that must be paid as soon as possible by KPK investigators.
"That is an effort that the investigators will do to try to find, trace the whereabouts of this HM. It is one of the responsibilities that we have to solve, we are finished with the hope that this 'debt' from the investigators must be paid by finding, arresting. to HM, "he said.
