Wes Anderson Presents The Film The French Dispatch

JAKARTA - Director Wes Anderson returns with his latest work entitled The French Dispatch. Since it was announced in February 2019, fans have been waiting for Wes Anderson's latest work after the last time he directed Isle of Dogs in 2018. Under the banner of Searchlight Pictures, this time Wes Anderson presents a story about journalists.

The French Dispatch centers on a collection of stories from the making of the last issue of an American magazine in the 20th century. This story will be divided into three story times marked by the words The Concrete Masterpiece, Revisions to a Manifesto, and The Private Dining Room of the Police Commissioner. One of the stories tells of the May 68 demonstration.

In the video trailer released on February 12, The French Dispatch shows several scenes in turn. Wes Anderson's quirk doesn't seem to be lost in his latest film. He still uses a symmetrical style and flat composition. Of course, this cannot be separated from the hands of cinematographer Robert Yeoman who often worked on Wes Anderson films such as Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Bright and bold color palettes are also still Anderson's style of storytelling. But this time, he also played with B&W colors in storytelling.

The French Dispatch is a form of Anderson's love for The New Yorker magazine. He also explained that this film tells a journalist who wants to write what he wants to write, not about press freedom. "When you talk about reporters, you are also talking about what's happening in the real world."

A line of well-known actors and actresses joined in the production of The French Dispatch, namely Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Bill Murray, Jeffrey Wright, Adrien Brody, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Lea Seydoux, Timothee Chalamet, Lyna Khoudri, Saoirse Ronan, Stephen Park, Mathieu Almaric, and many more.

The French Dispatch will be Wes Anderson's 10th film and will be his fourth collaboration with Searchlight Pictures after The Darjeeling Limited, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Isle of Dogs. The French Dispatch is scheduled to air on July 24, 2020.
