Flash Floods Caused Hundreds Of Residents To Evacuate And Damage Dozens Of Houses In Cianjur
CIANJUR - It was recorded that 12 houses were heavily damaged, hundreds of houses were lightly damaged, and 293 people were displaced due to flash floods that hit two sub-districts in the eastern region of Cianjur, according to data from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cianjur Regency, West Java.
Secretary of BPBD Cianjur Rudi Wibowo in Cianjur, Monday, said that the flash floods that hit two villages in Ciranjang District and eight villages in Bojongpicung District, recorded 93 families including 293 people in Ciranjang District, were displaced.
"For residents in Ciranjang Village, Ciranjang District, they fled to Ciranjang Village Hall because the water submerged the village as high as two meters. Temporary data on 12 houses were damaged, two of which collapsed in the flood and hundreds were more lightly damaged," he said.
His party has sent officers and volunteers assisted by joint officers from the TNI/Polri and PMI Cianjur, helping residents clean their houses from mud left over from the flood, while most electronic equipment and households were damaged.
Hundreds of volunteers were alerted at the locations of the Ciranjang and Bojongpicung floods to help residents and monitor the situation because the rainfall was still high until Monday evening. Residents who fled were asked to stay at the village hall.
"The worst flooding in Ciranjang Village was because residents had to flee to the village hall because their houses were still flooded and mud, while in Bojongpicung District, the flood submerged hundreds of houses but no residents fled because by noon the flood had receded," he said.
The village head of Ciranjang, Deden Efendi, said that until Monday evening the water discharge in the Ciranjang River, which had overflowed in the early hours of Monday, began to recede so that residents, especially men, had returned to their respective homes to ensure the condition of the house and valuables in it.
"But for tonight, they are still asked to sleep in village halls or refugee camps to avoid further flooding. After the last five years the flood has occurred again and submerged more than 100 houses in this village," he said.
Various assistance from local governments through BPBD Cianjur, PMI Cianjur, and other humanitarian organizations has been received by his party, so that food needs and residents' clothing are met.
