Erdogan: Turkey Killed ISIS Leader In Syria

JAKARTA - President Tayyip Erdogan announced that Turkey had killed the leader of the Islamic state group (Daesh/ISIS) in an intelligence operation in Syria on Saturday, April 29.

Erdogan said that the National Intelligence Agency (MIT) had been hunting down Daesh leader, who has the codename Abu Hussein al-Quralyshi for a long time.

"This is the first time I've said here. This person was destroyed in an operation conducted by MIT yesterday," Erdogan said in a live interview on Turkey's broadcast, TRT Turk, Sunday, May 1.

"We will continue our struggle against terrorist organizations without discrimination," he said, adding.

Quoted from ANTARA, in 2013, Turkey became the first country to state that Daesh/ISIS was a terrorist organization.

Turkey has been targeted by terror groups several times. About 300 people were killed and hundreds injured in at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed attacks.

Turkey then responded to these attacks by launching anti-terror operations, both domestically and abroad, to prevent further attacks.

The Qurayshi was appointed ISIS leader in November 2022. He continued the previous leader, Abu Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, who died in Syria.
