President Jokowi Ensures Rp. 10-50 Million Aid For People Affected By The Earthquake In West Sulawesi

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has confirmed that the government will provide assistance of around Rp. 10 - Rp. 50 million to people in West Sulawesi (Sulbar) whose houses were damaged by the earthquake.

This was expressed by Jokowi when he visited the evacuation sites for earthquake victims in Mamuju, West Sulawesi, Tuesday, January 19.

Apart from residents, President Jokowi also confirmed that the central government will help rebuild local government buildings damaged by the earthquake.

"For government buildings that collapsed after being audited, the central government will immediately rebuild. Then for collapsed houses, the government will help, for those heavily damaged Rp. 50 million, Rp. 25 million moderately, and lightly damaged or only cracked Rp. 10 million, "said President Jokowi as quoted by Antara.

The President said he came directly to West Sulawesi because he wanted to ensure that the process of distributing aid to the community, fulfilling refugee logistics, as well as the evacuation of victims was going well.

"This afternoon I visited West Sulawesi, especially in Mamuju Regency, and saw the field, saw collapsed government buildings, as well as collapsed people's houses," he said.

The President hopes that with the assistance of the central government, the community can rebuild houses and return to their activities immediately. Including local government activities in providing services to the community.

"With the hope of assistance from the central government, recovery will soon be realized, both houses collapsed, economic recovery and recovery in government will return to normal," he said.

The Head of State also expressed his deep condolences to the families of the earthquake victims.

"Lastly, I would like to express my deep sorrow for the victims who died. I hope that those who are left will be given sincerity and patience," he said.
